My Writing Day

Susan Jones – Author

It begins with a relaxing breakfast with Alan, usually consisting of fruit, yoghurt and either toast and marmalade, or cereal, but not both. We have black coffee, and take time to enjoy the moment. I have my latest library books near, and the latest Writing Magazine, and Society of Author’s magazine.

This month it’s talking about branding. What’s your brand? It’s the question everyone in the writing world wants to know. I pondered on this for ages, and I have a great book written by Liam Livings, member of the Romantic Writer’s Association. It’s about marketing, but branding is an important part of that.

You need to know your brand before you can decide how to market yourself. All sounds a bit complicated, but it needn’t be. Following on from the Society of Author’s article, your brand is your personality, all about you. It’s taken me a long time to realise this, and now I know, it makes it easier.

Can you tell from these book covers what my brand is? And I have recently changed my author name to write a gritty saga, of which there will be more, and it’s different, but readers familiar with any of these books will recognise my writing style.

After visiting Tony, dad to check he’s alright and make some dinner share a cuppa and hear his stories of growing up during and after the war. A born storyteller, he has a different tale to tell, or sometimes he tells the same story but in a different way. Either way, it’s always an enjoyable time spent with him. His little dog Tess enjoys a run around the football field over the road as well.

Then I return home for dinner in the early afternoon, where I do a crossword, and at the moment have a smashing jig saw on the go. A scene form the 1950’s, I’ll post it on here when it’s completed. A thousand pieces and I’m sure there’s a hundred missing.

Afternoon and evening is writing time. Notes, letters, articles and the novel will all be added to, along with republishing my book collection, using my own isbn’s, as in the early day, ten years ago, I didn’t realise that the Amazon free publishing system meant they own the book, but copyright is still with me, so now I’m in the process of republishing them all under Palm Tree Publishing name.

So now I am publisher, editor and agent. chief marketer, and writer of my books. I will need to invest in getting a few beta readers, and a proof reader, so if you’re one of those, drop me a line.
